What is Montessori?

The Montessori educational method is based upon the studies of Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator. After her experimental observation of young children, Dr. Montessori discovered that children learn directly from their environment and nearly little from listening to a teacher in class.

The Montessori method stresses learning through all five senses, not just through the traditional methods of listening, watching, or reading. Children learn at their own, individual pace, and develop of love a learning through an exciting process of discovery. They can choose from hundreds of hands-on activities that leads directly to a new level of learning or to a concept. Teachers in Montessori classrooms provide guidance where needed. They spend most of their time observing each child and preparing the environment according to their needs.
